This is a Giraffe Art at Keukenhof May 2025 |

With the sculpture This is a Giraffe, I want to show that meaning is not inherent to objects, but is assigned by people. By painting the hare with the patterns of a giraffe and giving it a different title, I break with the assumed naturalness of our language and challenge the viewer to look at the world around us in a different way. I want to emphasize the personal interpretation and adaptability of meaning, and show that it can always be adjusted and transformed. In this way, I aim to start a dialogue about how we perceive and understand the world around us, and how language and meaning play a role in shaping that understanding. The title is: “This is a Giraffe.” The sculpture is made of wood, steel, polyester, and paint. The above photo was taken by Wim Wiskerke
